Captains Log # 2564

Captains Log:

The 27th of October 1922xx

Entry #2564

Dear Captains Log.

Once again, it is I, Captain James A. Hook, Captain of the Jolly Roger, scourge of the seven seas and.. well.. temporarily anchored off the west coast of Neverland. I write in this archive of thoughts today with a rather heavy heart. Project Fish-girl-cannon-ball was a failure. The plan, as i recall was to deploy a three hundred pound cannon on the beach to be aimed at Peter Pan, curse his name, when he came into view. I took into consideration my genius but did not the beauty of the Fish girls. Mermaids I suppose their name is. Itchy, Gork and Toothpick, the three buffoons i sent to do the deed were mesmerized with the Mermaids. Too mesmerized to aim properly and as such i now have a hole in my lower hull. They have since been drowned by the Mermaids I hear. Sad. If only the mermaids could join my crew..

Never the less, I have yet another plan. In my hands I hold a bag of Gun-powder so powerful, it is said to explode on sight. Okay, that may be a lie but it is indeed amusing to see the dirty rats on deck quiver when i bring out the bag. With this Gun powder in hand i will indeed devise a place so evil, so vile that even I shall gaze at myself in the mirror with admiration.. well more so than the norm anyways.

In other happenings, I have made it a point to fire my cannons at Neverland randomly at well.. simply randomly. So far i have counted three birds, nine goats, five cows and i am quite sure one monkey, that i have killed. Sadly no child has been in my sights. However, it pleases me that i now have the fear of all the animals. One small step to my conquest of Neverland.

I have also ordered the disposal of all time keeping instruments. That ticking sound of that crocodile beast haunts me in my sleep. From this day onward, Peeler, one of my deckhands, will be tasked with the duty of calling out the time for the Jolly Roger. He is to reside in the lower dungeons and call out the time every minute for the rest of his life. Failure to do so will result in his death and / or torture. Mr. Jonson, the old fool who toiled in the kitchens had a pacemaker in him. He had to be... sacrificed.

Lastly I might add that I have indeed uncovered the mystery of the missing soap. Pollywager, my cannon-boy has been smuggling soap on board the ship. He apparently shapes the soap into little fishes and feeds them to the dolphins.. to see them choke. I like this attitude. He has since been given a promotion. The cannon-boy is now the cannon-man. He now has 4 cannons to clean rather than one. I may have been gracious there but it is in my character i guess.

I will now end this log.

Captain James A. Hook
The one true Captain of the Jolly Roger,
Gracious to a flaw.

Remember This

I would like to thank Sameer and Yoga for the post. They were both posts meant to inspire and push you'll to work. They were both posts that sought to open your eyes and give you the motivation to do better; granted they both used very different tactics : )

Here's the thing guys. Whatever should be said has been said by the both of them. Read through their posts if you haven't because almost all of it makes alot of sense.

But here's something I saw at rehearsals that I need you to remember:
1)I saw Tinkerbell teaching 3 Lostboys how to do the loudest shout so that next time they were in a battle, they'd be able to give out a war cry worthy of a Lostboy. Tinkerbell and Lost Boys were finally becoming one and I was amazed to see that. It's something that we'd all hoped for but seeing it happen, the family finally getting tight is worth it. That's what's important. Because when you're acting out on that stage, you're only going to have them by your side to support you.

2)I saw Christine learning new things from Mdm Kalyani. She is doing something she's never done before and by god, she's doing it well. The costumes this year are something to be looking forward to and Christine putting in effort to learn the new skills.

3) Praven has been working on music with Idham all week long. Despite the mixer being spoilt, he is finding other ways to make things work. Music this year is fantastic and wonderful to hear. It may be taking awhile but good things take time....and the mixer needs to be fixed ; ) But fear not Neverlanders, the mixer will be well and ready by this coming weekend.

4) Captain Hook and Peterpan are having so much fun doing their fight choreo and watching it live was better than expected. Ofcourse some tightening needs to be done but hell! For the time that you'll have had, this is a job well done. I can imagine the looks on the children's faces when they watch that scene : )

5) Naathan and Sheetal have been working hard ensuring you have a good schedule to come to on Saturdays. And so far most of you'll have stuck to it and turned up! But for those who haven't but have let them both know that because of illness and unforseen circumstances you cannot turn up that's fine. But for those who aren't even letting them know if you can turn up, letting us discover on our own where you are, watch it. Because this is a team you are working with. And if you don't act like a team, you shouldn't be part of the team.

6) Serena, Naathan and myself have been moving sets around constantly. Due to the change in date of the production, alot of things have changed. We can't start buidling too early because the sets might get destroyed and at the same time we have to protect the ones we already have. We have been moving around like mad people, shifting things from one corner to another, breaking pieces apart and throwing them away all without complaining...well except to each other ofcourse ; )But at the end of the day, the sets will be ready for the musical and you will love it.

7) Ghauthaman and me and have been meeting up (Sometimes Serena) to settle the tech script on Mondays. After work/School, we both drag our sorry butts to coffee bean or the CC to discuss the lights and sound.

8) Yoga and Naathan have been working hard getting sponsors with positive results so far. And they have done it will little or no experience in this field.

9) Kanages, Kanitha and Sameer have been learning their dances over weekday nights. Colin meets up with Kanages and he and I take turns to meet up with Kanitha and Sameer to teach them their choreo. All 3 have been putting in a 100% to learn the choreo and have not once complained about the timings we have to meet to teach or learn the dance.

So what's the point of me telling you this?
So many things go on behind the scenes, on weekday nights and weekends. So many things that are being done to ensure this production works. The crew is small but hardworking. The cast is large with lots of energy. We need to merge it all up and make sure we are eqaully energetic and hardworking.

Serena and Mustafah asked me yesterday. "Which do you think is harder? Being the backstage crew or a cast member?" Serena reminded me that I had once said that being a cast member was harder.

See, being a crew is tough. Tying up all the loose ends and making sure everything is ready isn't easy at all. But here's why being a cast member is as hard, on the day of the musical, the cast is what brings the musical to life. And if they can't do it, what the crew has worked for goes down the drain.

So being a cast is hardwork. You have to find the essence of your character and bring it out during show time.

I know you can do it. So work harder, fight harder, Sing harder and dance harder. Remember this.

Wake up

Hey hey! Yoga here! I know...I'm posting...its awesome...

Anyways!

I noticed the blog's been stagnant for some time, so I am taking the liberty of posting up something just to keep things going so you guys can read and entertain yourselves...and yeah here it goes...

I have not been around for a few months so I couldn't see how you've guys really progressed, but this is what I can see when I come down on weekends... The acting side...

You guys are not putting in your 100%... not even 50%. I dont know why. I dont if this is really the case, and I pray that I am wrong, but I come down every week and see you guys perform the same mistakes, put up the same standard every week.

Honestly, I dont know if that is the way the scene was intended to be acted out, but I'm going to put it bluntly... Its not working guys.

Every week I see you guys goof off and play around DURING scenes. Its okay to goof off to let out steam... But not during a scene, especially YOURS. And its not ok to goof off during ANOTHER person's scene. It is rude. Its disrepectful. Its like talking loudly on your handphone and munching popcorn loudly and slurping up the last few drops of COKE in the middle of the climax of the ultimate summer blockbuster...People have been SHOT for that...

This is called discipline guys. Discipline that you as professional actors need to have.

Wait!

Did he say professional?

Why, yes I did.

Thats what you guys are now. You are all actors of an organization putting up a performance for a paying audience in a performance center. Whats not professional about it?

But whats not professional about you guys is your level of discipline. Your level of commitment. Your love for what you do.

Let me ask you guys a question?

Do you really want to act in Peter Pan?

Before you say yes (or if KC is reading this he will say no and say he's been forced to act against his will and blah blah...but he really wants to be here), ask yourself this.

Do you really really want to act in Peter Pan?

Cos the way i see it, it seems most of you dont really want to act and every Saturday, you guys are just going through the motions, doing the same routine. You've become lifeless robots regurgitating lines in an empty room, when you're supposed to be vibrant, artistic forms of energy creating adventures and weaving stories out of thin air.

But you guys are not doing that.

Why?

Maybe you guys dont really know what you want out of Peter Pan.

Maybe you all dont know what Peter Pan wants out of you...

You guys are lacking A vision... A dream...

I cant tell you guys what that dream is supposed to be. I cant tell you what we are working towards...

Its something that you guys as Cast have to sit down and ask yoursleves. When was the last time that all the cast members sat down by themselves and talked to each other about the problems you are facing, and what you guys are doing wrong...what you are doing right... Never? Well I guess you guys have now something to do on Saturday?

Ask yourself why you guys are not performing at the standard that the Crew BELIEVES you guys can perform at.
Ask yourself why you guys are not giving your all, when you guys can give 100% ...and then some more.
Ask yourself why you guys are walking around like zombies when you should be bouncing around like radioactive Energizer bunnies on steroids WAITING for your turn to come so you can WOW away your audience...

Most of all, ask yourself what you want Peter Pan to acheive...

CinderElla: Revamped! proved that a bunch of youths can pull together to put up a professional musical...

Maybe Peter Pan can raise that standard? Try to outdo CinderElla? Raise the stakes.

If CinderElla brought in X number of people, then Peter Pan should bring in 5 TIMES X number of people.

If CinderElla could inspire Z number of youths to step out of their boundaries, question the norms of society and Push ahead with nothing but dreams, then Peter Pan should inspire 10 TIMES Z of youths to step forward, DEVASTATE THE NORMS OF SOCIETY AND SET A NEW NORM OF SOCIETY, one in which kids take up dance or theatre or singing as a part of their lives!

A vibrant society FULL OF LIFE, not ROBOTS!

So wake up!

You guys are now the TRUE explorers of the unexplored, the REAL adventurers of adventures. Sing with the breeze and dance with the clouds and whatever else Sameer sprouts in his moment of fame.

Believe you can, cos we do.

PS: A close friend of mine once asked me this...

Him: You are just kids in a small room in a far off CC... What are you guys going to change?

I told him: ... Everything...

Yet to be proven wrong...

Signed, Chopped and Sealed,
Specialist Cadet Trainee Raj, the dude who flies the badass chopper in Battlefield 2 ( Seriously guys...we NEED to play...)

YOO!

Hey guys. Sameer aka PeterPan here. Naathan aka our beloved director instructed me to put up a post in an attempt to further revive this blog. So yeah. I dont really know what to talk about so if at any point of time you find that I'm talking crap, just ignore it. Like how you ignore your siblings whenever they ask you for money. Lol.

Okay guys. Its been roughly 6months since we started rehearsals and I'm really glad to be in this musical with you people. Seriously. Though I may never tell yall this, I really admire how all of you sacrifice your Saturdays to be involved in this production. I know its not easy to do this since all of us have commitments and stuff. Throughout these 6months, I've gained new friends and also improved my friendship with the people whom I knew before this.

I know that we are nowhere near perfection right now. There are days where people dont turn up at all, cast and crew members coming in late for no particular reason. We dont remember our lines. We goof off too much. Hell, we really have hell load of problems eh??? Haha. There are days where we even wonder to ourselves why in the world we joined this musical. Why in the world are we devoting our time to a production done up by a CC in  Sembawang.
Well let me tell you why.

Its cause of the end product.

I'm not saying this because I was in Cinderella but trust me guys, in the end, when everything is over and the spotlight stands to dim off the stage, we would look at this whole experience and think, "wow,we actually pulled it off."

Will we pull if off?
We will guys, we blooooody hell will. Its just that right now we are in a state where we are starting to doubt ourselves. Well, maybe not "we". But I know I do. I've never done musicals except for CR. I have little or no experience and here I am being the lead actor of a musical. Please dont mistake what I said as arrogance. You guys should know that I've never considered myself as the lead. In my eyes, we all are lead actors.(except for the fact that I'll be getting my own dressing room la. HAHAHA).

I never really got the opportunity to say this but I think yall are FREAKING FREAKING TALENTED.

From  john to wendy, to the hot and sexy mermaids(lol) to the lost boys to boogeyman to tiger lily  and of course my BEST FRIEND, TINKERBELL.

Sometimes I feel super intimidated to act with you guys, afraid that I would make a mistake.

My fellow cast members, please do not lose hope. Its even tougher now that the musical is postponed. That would mean more time spent in this. From the bottom of my heart, I hope you guys do not lose faith, dont lose your passion. Dont lose the adrenaline to wake up every saturday at FREAKING 7am to come for rehearsals. When you feel that the musical isnt going anywhere, do not give up.

Do not give in to whatever negativity you feel around you. This would further deter you from improving. Thats what I feel.. As cast members, lets show them crew what we're made up of.
Like what I always love to say: NEGATIVITY+ POSITIVITY= PROSPERITY

There's a huge difference between a team and a group.

Right now, we are a group.
I hope in time to come, we will be united enough to be a team.

I'm not writing this because Naathan told me to.
I'm not writing this because I'm the lead actor of the musical.
I'm not writing this because I'm a devoted member of AFT.

I'm writing this because I'm a 17year old kid who loves performing on stage. Though I'm not perfect, I love what I'm doing. On weekdays, I'm just one of the engineering students over at Singapore Polytechnic. I sleep during lectures sometimes, skip classes. Then when Friday comes and my school ends, I'm really happy.

Because the next day is Saturday.

And Saturday is the best day in the week for me.

Why?
Its coz other than the fact that I get to meet up with my HOT GIRLFRIEND AKA SACRLETT JOHANSSEN, I get to go for musical rehearsals. Something which I really enjoy doing.

Lets crank this shit up man!!!!

ADIOS!

When Peter met Hook

Hey guys!!!!
Director here.
I just wanna post up something that might cheer your week up and hopefully get you excited for this week's rehearsals!!!

Here's the fight scene from Act 2 Scene 3: Tinkerbelle's capture scene, between Hook and Peter Pan.
My many thanks to Sameer, Mus, Henry and well.. myself for the dynamic effort!

This one's the initial stage. We choreographed the fight scene in the theaterette before moving to the stage.

This is roughly how the fight scene is gonna look like on stage.

Its not totally complete, but this was upload-worthy.

aaaaaand i promised Peter pan.
You have NO idea how whiney he gets.

:)
Later, guys
